Annotation
The article considers the functioning of the Ukrainian language in the sphere of school education in the Russian Federation in the language prognosis context. The communicative sphere of education has always been at the center of language policy, being both an object and a tool for its implementation. Within the framework of this paper, we considered it expedient to try to trace the influence of a number of the listed factors using the example of one language. The Ukrainian language was chosen because its functioning in Russia in synchronicity, diachrony and perspective is an interesting and extensive theme, the relevance of which is only increasing. A number of extralinguistic factors influencing the dynamics and prospects of the functioning of the language in the fi eld of education are analyzed, which are divided in the article into the main groups: demographic; political, legislative; socio-psychological;
geographical; economic. Particular attention is paid to such important factors as legal and legislative. Statistics are studied in a wide diachronic section of the 2000s and 2010s, including taking into account the latest data for the 2019/20 academic year. Based on the study of the interaction of a number of factors, conclusions are drawn about the state and prospects of learning the Ukrainian language in the Russian schools.
